What is a smart home?

CNET, an American media website that publishes reviews, articles, and more on technology and consumer electronics, defines a Smart Home as: "A home that is equipped with network-connected products (aka “smart products,” connected via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or similar protocols) for controlling, automating and optimizing functions such as temperature, lighting, security, safety or entertainment, either remotely by a phone, tablet, computer or a separate system within the home itself.”

The basics (the answer must be yes to both)

1. Do you have reliable internet?

1. Do you have a smart security feature? For example, a doorbell camera, or security system that controls access or monitors the property.
2. Do you have a smart thermostat? (Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell, etc.)

2. Safety (smart fire/carbon monoxide detectors and nightlights)

4. Appliances (smart refrigerators and smart washer/dryers)
5. Heating / Cooling (smart HVAC system, smart fans, or vents)
6. Outdoors (smart plant sensors and watering systems)
7. Security (smart locks, smart alarm systems, or cameras)
8. Temperature (smart thermostats)
