The Missouri Real Estate Commission

The Missouri Real Estate Commission (MREC) was created in 1941 to issue licenses to real estate salespeople and brokers.  In addition, the commission investigates complaints from consumers against real estate licensees, audits real estate escrow accounts to confirm that buyers' earnest money has been properly handled and performs other duties to carry out provisions of the Missouri real estate license law. 

The Missouri Real Estate Commission  consists of seven voting members, six of which must have at least 10 years experience as real estate brokers with the seventh member being a member of the public.  All commissioners are appointed by the Governor and serve a 5 year term.
