Wentzville has seen a tremendous growth in commercial development over the past few decades.  In the late 70's Walmart opened in a new shopping center now known as Wentzville Crossings.  Shortly afterward, General Motors built an auto assembly plant in Wentzvile bring with it a few thousand jobs.  After GM followed the development of the Wentzville Marketplace, The Belz Factory Outlet Mall and SSM HealthCare, all in the '80's.  Late in the '80's construction on the Wentzville Parkway began.  Late in the '90's a Walgreens was built on the new Parkway.  

In the 2000s Wentzville saw continued commercial development including a Schnucks Grocery Store in Wentzville Commons, a Home Depot and a new Walmart shopping center. Sicne 2010 new developments have included several restaurants, a Fairfield Inn Hotel, The Gap, a Dicks Sporting Good, a Sam's Club,  the Ranken Tech Campus as well as several others.
